At Mood Biochemistry, we explore the connection between nutrition and mood. The growing body of evidence suggests that many mood disorders, such as anxiety, depression, mood swings, stress, fatigue, and low energy, can be linked to imbalances in brain chemistry, which can be influenced by diet and nutritional deficiencies. Even cravings for certain foods, such as sugar, coffee, and alcohol, can be related to biochemical imbalances, and addressing these imbalances through nutrition can help reduce cravings and stabilize mood.

Our focus:

  • Biochemical Basis:
We assess neurotransmitter depletion, such as serotonin, dopamine, and others, which play crucial roles in regulating mood, as deficiencies in these chemicals can lead to mood disorders.
  • Nutritional Solutions:
We employ nutritional approaches to improve mood. Certain amino acids and other nutrients can support the production of neurotransmitters.
  • Personalized Plans:
We create individualized treatment plans based on each person's specific biochemistry and symptoms, utilizing various assessments to identify specific nutritional deficiencies.
  • Supplementation:
We discuss the use of supplements, such as amino acids and vitamins, to help balance brain chemistry and alleviate mood disorders.
  • Lifestyle Changes:
Alongside nutritional recommendations, we also discuss lifestyle changes that can support better mood, including stress management techniques and exercise.
Moreover, as necessary, we facilitate referrals to other specialists. This service proves invaluable to our clients, who often face uncertainty about where to begin seeking additional support.
At Mood Biochemistry, we advocate that a well-nourished, optimally functioning brain is fundamental for overcoming mental health disorders and navigating life challenges that can deplete neurotransmitters or lead to substance abuse. We empower individuals to address the biochemical aspects of mood disorders without depending solely on medication. Through education and personalized support, we enable our clients to take charge of their emotional well-being by harnessing the power of nutrition. Our approach focuses on teaching effective brain nourishment techniques, promoting enhanced mental clarity, emotional resilience, and overall wellness on their path to recovery.

What is Amino Acid Therapy?

Amino acid therapy involves the targeted use of specific over- the- counter, free- form amino acids to rapidly supply the brain with essential building blocks for its four major mood- regulating neurotransmitter systems. Research and clinical experience indicate that these amino acids can typically penetrate the blood-brain barrier, resulting in mood improvement within approximately 20 minutes. Unlike addictive substances and behaviors that suppress neurotransmitter function, amino acid therapy is considered anti-addictive because it supports the rebuilding of crucial neurotransmitter systems over time.

As these neurotransmitter systems recover, symptoms associated with their depletion— such as depression, anxiety, insomnia, cravings, and withdrawal symptoms— often diminish rapidly and may even disappear entirely. Amino acids are natural compounds found in the proteins we consume, which generally means adverse reactions are rare and typically stem from impurities in manufacturing or unnecessary supplementation. Scientific exploration into amino acid therapy began in the 1970s and has since been integrated into clinical practices for several decades. Numerous studies and educational institutions in the United States now train healthcare professionals in the application of amino acid therapy for individuals dealing with mental health and addictive disorders.
